Deadvlei was once an oasis packed with Acacia trees and fed by a river that suddenly changed course, leaving the earth to dry up together with the trees it previously supported. Deadvlei is now a famous cracked clay pan filled with beautiful intricate shaped dead trees (about 900 years old), surrounded by giant red dunes.
